It seems that we will be PCSing to Parris Island in the next couple of months. We don't have hard copy orders yet, but we know it should be around July or August. I've all ready talked to housing, and it's looking like we'll most likely be staying in Wake Village. We're coming from Camp Lejeune! I'm crazy excited about it! I'm originally from Summerville, which is near Charleston!

We came to PI, from Camp Lejeune almost 2 years ago. They told us we would get a home in Wake Village, too. Never happened, lol. They tell everyone they can apply for it, but it doesn't mean you will get it. How it works is after you fax in your paperwork, they will check to see if there's any homes on PI available. If not, they will put you in Naval Hospital housing, or Laurel Bay. There's no waiting list for housing, so don't let them lie to you! They say that to a lot of people. It's so hard to get a home on PI, unless your husband is a DI. Even then, some of the DI's have to make the drive to PI from Laurel Bay. They don't have enough homes on PI, for all of PI Marines. We bit the bullet, and had to get a home in Freedom Sound, located in Laurel Bay. We last there nearly a year, before moving out into town b/c the drive was too far for my husband. I hope you get what you want, but I just wanted to give you a heads up. The PI housing people are tools sometimes.

Ah, thanks for the heads up. We're gonna do the paperwork as soon as possible to help our chances with a house on PI. We're about 6 months out, so we will definitely be using sending the paper work in when we hit 90 days out. I talked to both sides of housing (military and AMCC), and the women I talked to both said the same things about the waiting list. Besides, it can't be any worse than Camp Lejeune. The waiting lists for TT and Midway Park are over a year now, so I've heard.

My husband and I are PCSing to Camp Lejeune in March from here on Parris Island. I noticed housing is impossible to get onto there, got any advice? We talked to housing and we got a six month wait and that's once he checks in. I just moved down here to Beaufort with my husband. I was in the Air Force stationed on Charleston and we lived in Summerville (Ladson). Loved it!

We never had any issues at Lejeune. We got one right away, and it was a new one in TT. I have heard it's a LONG wait now. Crazy! I have a friend there who waited 4-5 months. As far as PI goes, if your husband is going to be a DI, he has a greater chance in getting a home. If not, they don't really work with you. That's how it is for a lot of people. My husband works at Weapons Field Training Battalion, and most of those guys live in Laurel Bay. Everyone who works on PI wants a PI house, the problem is there just isn't many homes there to begin with. I would just have a back up plan, if you aren't willing to live in the other housing areas. Good luck! Keep on them :)

Alexandria, the waiting lists here are horrible. AMCC is in the process of tearing down a lot of houses here. The wait depends on where you want to live. You're better off getting an apartment or renting a house while you wait for housing. I just got off the phone with housing. Housing on PI is first come, first served. A house is a house to me. We're still quite a ways out, so it's no biggie right now.

We currently live on Laurel Bay, the older homes, and I like it and I am pretty picky. The one and a half bathroom thing kills me being we just came from two full and the homes in Charleston were a lot newer but this still doesn't bother me. I was very picky when moving in here. I told them I did not want the ugly blue counters and specified what I did and did not want and they were great about it. It takes my husband 24 minutes exactly to get to work on PI. We've been looking at homes in Hubert (supposidly it's the closest to the gate he needs to use). Not having much luck at all. So we'll see!

Good luck with that. Are you wanting to rent or buy? Businesses in Jacksonville takes advantage of the military very badly. It is nothing like Charleston.

We were in a house at Lejeune within a week of my hubs checking in. This was in '06 before renovations started in Berkeley Manor, so I'm sure it's not the case now that they are still in the middle of it. Hubs was about 10 minutes from work then. Now we live in LB and he's about 25 minutes from work and hates it (PI, of course, wasn't avaiable), but I'm the one home all day with our girls and I'm happy with where we're at... so that's all that matters... lol. We're in the older part of LB but in a renovated house. Thankfully our's was the very first to be renovated and we didn't have to live through that mess. I have neighbors who did and I can't imagine! We have friends that recently checked in as a DI and they immediately sent them to LB. They didn't like what TCC showed them so they rented out on Lady's Island. Good luck with all your moves, ladies!

Hi! I'm new here myself but I am the person jab20 was talking about :) We were sent to LB and shown about 10 houses that were all in need of remodeling ... we were told that we would have to live through the rennovations and that just wasn't an option for us since we have a 3 year old and 9 month old. We are renting out in Lady's Island right now but are hoping to move closer to PI at the end of our year lease or get into PI housing. The drive is really hard on my husband with the hours they pull ... he's mentioned more then once about almost falling asleep on his drive home. I noticed that you are from Summerville ... Go Greenwave!!!! I actually graduated from SHS in 97 :) Did you go to SHS? If so, what year?
